Why God's iCloud Dwarfs Apple's
Solomon, a wise man called The Preacher, once said,
Words do matter. But, to whom?
People use words today as if they cost nothing. Mean nothing. People use words frivolously. To manipulate. To deceive. It's George Orwell's futuristic world of 'doublespeak' come true. Even the meaning of an innocent little word like 'is' has been kidnapped and sacrificed on the altar of political expediency.
A man's word used to be his bond. Seems like those days are long gone. Why else is buying a house so cumbersome? The reason a ream of papers must be signed by all parties is simply because no one can be assured of keeping their word.
People have forgotten why we even have words. True language was implanted into only one creature: Humans. Why? So that man (and woman, of course) could communicate with their Creator. The glory of man was his 'tongue'. (Read about this most interesting phenomenon as explained in an earlier post titled "My Uncle Thinks He Is a Giraffe"!)
What we probably don't realize is that every single time we open our mouths and words come out, we have a heavenly audience for them. Every single word is being recorded on an non-erasable, eternal, celestial 'cloud' storage device.
So, it must matter to God. In fact, it was Jesus who told us why it matters:
And if even the 'idle' words are recorded, just imagine how surely the 'intentional' words will be!
How then can our words escape condemnation in that day?
So glad you asked. Because God has not left us in the dark. He inspired His apostle (spokesperson), Paul, to tell us that...
And since words come from thinking, it follows that our words, too, should be true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous (now that's a lost word today), and praiseworthy.
So, it is with true humility that I, the one whose iCloud file is surely overflowing, pray sincerely...
Selah. A word that supposedly means 'stop and think about this for awhile'...
"Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few." (Ecclesiastes 5:2)
