Soap and Soapboxes

Words have always fascinated me.  Such power residing in those discrete little sounds glued together in our minds!  How these little alphabet symbols conjure up such powerful forces!  But have you ever thought of them as soap?

So powerful are these little entities that Jesus uses them to wash and cleanse His own body, the Church:

"...That he might sanctify and cleanse it [the church] with the washing of water by the word..."  Ephesians 5:26

Of course, the 'word' Jesus is referring to is His Word, not ours.  But, our words have great power none-the-less.  So much power, in fact, that we are sternly warned about their misuse.  I'm thinking of what Jesus said in Matthew's gospel account:

"But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment."  Matthew 12:36

And his half-brother, James, knew we'd better be careful with this great power as well:

"Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great thingsBehold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth"   James 3:5-6

Bearing these words in mind, who in their right mind would want to write a blog!

Simply because I believe we are not to remain silent.  The same God who gave mankind the gift of language has a purpose for it in us...to use that gift to communicate with and about Him.

This is my soapbox, as it were, to hopefully do just that.
